Ginger Syrup Pudding

I was recently given the Great British Puddings recipe book as a gift. It’s full of lots of pudding recipes including old favourites as well as some more traditional forgotten recipes. It has a good mix of pies, puddings, cakes and other dessert recipes. There are also a good picture to recipe ration, which is always nice to see. Continue reading

Numbered 25th Chocolate Birthday Cake

Hello all!

I hope you had a lovely Christmas and New Years. I know it feels like such a long time ago, but I hope you’re feeling well rested. The cake I am going to share with you this week was made for a birthday last month, but as it was done so close to Christmas that I just hadn’t gotten round to blogging it yet.

It was for a lady turning 25. The brief was simply – CHOCOLATE, and lots of it. Continue reading

Gift Box Cake

Hello!!! I haven’t blogged any cakes in a while, so I’m going to be doing a few posts today to bring everyone up to speed with that I’ve been up to. Sidebar – have you noticed it’s snowing on my blog? :-)

This first cake was for a family friend’s little girl who turned 3 years old a few weeks ago. I made this cake in the style of a wrapped gift box and used red as the “ribbon” as this was Isis’ favourite colour. Continue reading

Ruby Red Giant Cupcake

This Giant Cupcake was made for a very good friend of the family who celebrated her birthday a few weeks ago. Her name is Ruby, which is why she requested the lovely red theme for her cake. The cake is a victoria sponge, filled with raspberry jam and vanilla buttercream.

I really love the deep red colour that I achieved with the buttercream roses and as always, it is a massive confidence boost to recieve positive feedback about my cakes.

Musical Note Cake

Last weekend, London town had some faboulous weather, and so for my dad and sister’s joint birthday party, we had a family BBQ. Naturally, I was in charge of bringing the cakes. My sister had already decided months ago that she wanted her cake to look like a musical note, so I had a chance to be organised and take my time doing this cake. Continue reading

Nameday Giant Cupcake

Another Giant Cupcake, this time for a friend of mine. She wanted a cake for her husband’s Nameday.

A Nameday, is very similar to a birthday, insofar as it involves gifts and cake. The main difference being that, instead of celebrating the day you were born, you celebrate……you guessed it – your name! It is a really popular tradition in Poland (and a few other countries I’m told). My question is, why do we not have it here in the UK???

This giant cupcake is a red velvet cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. The idea, was to make it look like an actual oversized cupcake – hence the giant buttercream swirl and the sprinkles. I am really pleased with how it turned out and so glad that they both loved it too.

White Rose Birthday Cake

This is the second and final cake for this week. It was made for my cousin’s girlfriend who celebrated her birthday yesterday.

It’s another Rich Fruit Cake with a white and green theme (as green is her favourite colour). My cousin wanted something simple and feminine, so I decided to decorate the cake with some white roses and gypsophila.

I won’t get a chance to speak to her before I do this post, so I hope that she loves the cake!
